Influence communication celebrates its 5th anniversary

This month, Influence Communication is 5 years old. To commemorate this event, we would like to share with you some of our accomplishments along the way, as well as some interesting statistics regarding our company.

Influence Communication was founded in 2001, as a media monitoring brokerage house, to offer top of the line service to large Canadian corporations.

The development of our proprietary software and the creation of our first purchasing agreements with the country’s media monitoring firms, kept us busy for the first two years. Then in 2003, Bombardier Inc. and all of its business units became a client of Influence Communication. Today we provide services for 170 clients, of which, 60 are part of Canada’s 100 biggest companies. We are also proud to provide services for some of the most prominent Public Relation firms in the country. 85% of our clients have their head office in Quebec, 10% have their head office in the rest of the country and 5% are based in the United States.

Influence Communication disposes of a network of a little over one hundred media monitoring suppliers, spread out over 120 countries, from which we purchase over 650 000 news items that come from newspapers, radio, television and the Internet. 85% of our business process is now automated, which allows our network to monitor and aggregate news from 5 continents.

Influence Communication uses its own information delivery, archiving system, and Internet search tool called ICE (Interactive Communication Environment) which can scan a website such as Canada.com in a little less then one second, find articles relating to our clients and place the links to these articles within their individual profiles. ICE scans all day long 500 Canadian websites and 7000 websites worldwide.

In order to better understand the news and ananlyze its content, we collect, assemble and organize 700 000, news items from all sources, including newsprint, Radio, television, news websites and Blogs.

Our system has allowed us to put forward the notion of media prominence, which is a scoring system that can place your news story in context with the other news items quantitatively. This allows our clients to compare how their news fared against other similar news items or competing news items.

Media Prominence also allows communicators to evaluate the impact of repetition in today’s media landscape.

On behalf of everyone here at Influence Communication, we thank you for your trust.
